d'you know what's the best thing in the world?

Well, if you don't know, you don't have to wonder anymore... it's these:

Chocolate. Covered. Cinnamon. Bears. They are heaven. I get mine from Sunflower Farmer's Market, and it's just a good thing that there's not a Sunflower too close to my home, or I'd have OD'd on them by now.

local band news type stuff

Denver four-piece The Still City will be releasing its second EP, Light And The Machines, on May 31st at the Meadowlark (2701 Larimer Street). The new EP, recorded and produced by the band's guitarist Ryan Murphy, is both more cohesive than, and a natural evolution from, last year's These Songs Are Walls.

"We're excited to release this E.P. We feel that it's indicative of the direction the band is headed for the full length we hope to start recording this fall," said Brian Knab, The Still City's singer. The Still City will share the Meadowlark release bill with The Swayback and Laylights on May 31st.

kiss my grits, it's my first cd giveaway!

David Ford is supporting Augustana this Saturday at the Gothic Theatre. Now, I admit that I'm not really an Augustana fan, but it doesn't take much to get me out to see David Ford. For all you doubters, witness my favorite youtube video EVER: State Of The Union. For further confirmation that David Ford is genius, you can see Go To Hell. The man is amazing.

With thanks to Original Signal Recordings, I've got copies of David's latest album "Songs For The Road" for two lucky readers.

If you have the time for such things, you can read David's bio here, and some more PR stuff here.

And if you are interested in securing a copy of "Songs For The Road", please send an e-mail to denvermystik[at]gmail[dot]com with "David Ford" as the subject and your name and mailing address in the body. Don't worry, I won't share your information with anyone. Giveaway ends May 14, 2008, two winners will be chosen randomly.

I think David must loop his entire life. And I mean that in the best possible way...

better late than never...

full service, i like it.

Check out this press release from Austin's Full Service. It's an interesting idea, and I do indeed like it. Too bad 311 and Snoop Dogg aren't coming to Denver this summer...

Austin’s FULL SERVICE
TAKES OVER 311/Snoop Dogg Summer Tour

Austin’s band of road pirates FULL SERVICE has just announced it’s most far-reaching and risky stunt yet: a month long "TAKEOVER TOUR" spanning the entire eastern and south central United States. The target – 311 & Snoop Dogg’s summer tour.

Having successfully toured the nation’s club circuit independently for much of the last three years, FULL SERVICE has decided to take touring and promotion to a new level.

Wait, so the band has been invited to tour with 311?

"Definitely not. We were not invited by any means," says drummer Hoagman. "This is parasitic infiltration at its best. Will it be our greatest Takeover of all time? All signs point to yes."

Armed to the hilt with a generator, a traveling crew of three dedicated street-teamers and existing fans in every city, 10,000 demo CD’s, and a commitment to go without sleep for a month, the band will play 'takeover concerts' outside of the arena venues, before the inside concert begins, at all fourteen stops along the 311 tour, beginning in Philadelphia July 15th and ending in Austin August 2, 2008. The band is also booking late-night club dates in the each city after almost every takeover.

Full Service has been in takeover training for several years now, having successfully executed missions ranging from college campuses at lunch time (UCLA, UC-Berkeley, FSU, for example) to the Austin City Limits Festival (see FOX News coverage). Their most successful takeover came in 2006 outside the Austin Music Hall at a 311 concert in Austin. Full Service set up directly in front of the venue, which was heavily patrolled by Police. After a full ten-song set with no hassle from the authorities (gotta love Austin cops), a large crowd was begging for sample CD’s and info about the band.

Amidst the ever more competitive environment for bands to gain attention, FULL SERVICE has forsworn the standardized and impersonal myspace "friend-requesting" campaign and has instead decided to take it straight to the people, LOUD and LIVE and definitely UN-INVITED!

Visit http://www.fullservicemusic.com/ or http://www.blogger.com/www.myspace.com/fullservice for music, videos, and info.

TAKEOVER DATES
7/15 Tues – Penns Landing (Philadelphia, PA)
7/16 Wed Keyspan Park (Brooklyn, NY)
7/18 Fri – Tweeter Center (Boston, MA)
7/19 Sat – PNC Bank Arts Center (Holmdel, NJ)
7/20 Sun – Nissan Pavillion (Washington, DC)
7/22 Tues - Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre (VIRGINIA BEACH, VA)
7/23 Wed - Walnut Creek Amphitheatre (Raleigh, NC)
7/24 Thur – Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre (Charlotte, NC)
7/26 Sat - Hi-Fi Buys Amphitheatre (Atlanta, GA)
7/27 Sun - Ford Amphitheatre (TAMPA, FL)
7/29 Tues - River Center (BATON ROUGE, LA)
7/30 Wed - Showgrounds at Sam Houston Race Park (HOUSTON, TX)
7/31 Thur – Smirnoff Amphitheatre (Dallas, TX)
8/2 Sat – The Backyard (Austin, TX)

You should certainly check out their MySpace page for some tunes. They rather aptly describe their sound as Rock/Reggae/Metal. There's a little hip-hop in there too. It's good. Real good.

This is quite good...

Kathleen Edwards - Asking For Flowers
Damn. So's this.

Wolf Parade - At Mount Zoomer
It's Wolf Parade. Kinda goes without saying that it's good. I have a tremendous fangirl crush on Spencer Krug...
