strip mining

OK, so I don't know if it's because I've had a couple of drinks or what, but this is fucking hilarious to me... of course, only if you know the title of the comic, which is, of course, "strip mining":

Oh, natalie dee, I love you so hard.

And because I've had nothing of interest posted here lately, these are some albums that I am digging really a lot at the moment:

Los Campesinos! - Hold On Now, Youngster
This is just all kinds of amazing dance-tastic-ness...

Grand Archives - The Grand Archives
OK, so this one (to my knowledge) hasn't even leaked yet, but I've got a promo copy for review. So mostly I'm just bragging. It's really really really awesome.

Juno Sountrack
Can't stop listening... just... can't... stop...

Evangelicals - The Evening Decends
For people who like complete aural fucking freakouts. Fantastic.

British Sea Power - Do You Like Rock Music?
Yes, yes I do like rock music. Especially, I like THIS rock music.

The Mountain Goats - Heretic Pride
Well, I mean, it's the Mountain Goats, so... It's lovely. Plus the album cover is beautiful.

Christian Silva - Onward!
Read. Awesome.

Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
I'm pretty much all about anything Vampire Weekend lately...

the drew & natalie empire, juno, christian silva, aka the addiction post.

I am a huge fan of all the Natalie Dee, Toothpaste For Dinner & Married To The Sea comics.

This one makes me laugh, not because I did ANY of these things, but because I have managed to delete my enter iPod not once, but twice. So this comic made me think of me:

In other and semi-non-related musical news, I finally finally finally saw Juno tonight. As I expected, it was amazing.

Ellen Page deserves every award known to man for this film. She is awesome. And I have a rather, (well, probably because I'm nearly old enough to be his mom) motherly crush on Michael Cera. If you can count yourself among the lucky few to know the absolute genius that was Arrested Development, you know what I'm talking about. The kid is adorable yet talented, and while it seems that he's being typecast lately, I do believe he's young enough to break away from that. The quality projects that he's been involved with indicate a bright future indeed.

We went to the new Landmark in Greenwood Village, and It. Was. Awesome. Imagine a girl's night out with friends, popcorn, and gin & tonic. What in the world could be better?!?

The music-related-ness comes from the Juno soundtrack. It is awesome, check it out.

And just now I'm listening to my most recent (OK, so starting a few months ago and continuing on until NOW) musical obsession: Christian Silva. I'd actually given Christian a break for a while, but I'd had to get a review of his debut album done over the weekend (oh, oh - did I mention that it was featured?!?), and it riled my obsession up all over again. Soooooo fucking good. I even got a really nice comment about it. :)

Early prediction - British Sea Power, Christian Silva, Grand Archives, Mountain Goats & Vampire Weekend are going to figure high in the end of year list. Note it. (Actually, look for more fawning over the Grand Archives album, and soon. I know it's only January and too early to start thinking about album of the year, but...). Yeah.

I'm a procrastinator. I know it. But here at the eleventh hour I am pointing you to some excellent, FREE, music. Glasgow's The Martial Arts are offering their album Your Sinclair, yes for free. And it's excellent. For fans of 60's power-pop.

The downloads will reportedly only be available until tomorrow (January 7). Told you I'm a procrastinator...

the mars volta

So, if anyone has an extra ticket for the show at the Fox on the 27th... let me know. Pleeeeeeeeeeease.

xoxo.

reverend peyton's big damn band - spreadin' the word

If you live in the Denver/Boulder area, you absolutely NEED to be at the Fox Theatre tomorrow... err... tonight, I guess that would be.

By the most fortunate of accidents, I caught Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band at the Monolith Festival back in September (I can't yet bring myself to utter the words "last year" in regards to 2007). When I found out they were playing the Bluebird Theater I was ecstatic. Then I discovered they were playing the Fox the very next night and knew that I was very possibly in for a Big Damn Band two-fer.

The show at the Bluebird tonight was fantastic. I'm not exactly sure if it's because I hadn't seen a live show for nearly two months, or because I hadn't seen my show-going pals Leah & Laura for over two months, or because the Big Damn Band is just that damn good, but I had more fun tonight than I've had in a loooooong time. If you weren't one of the couple hundred lucky souls in attendance, you've got yourself another chance as the Big Damn Band is playing in Boulder at the Fox on Saturday - today, tomorrow, whatever you want to call it. For you mountain folks, they'll also be playing the Belly Up in Aspen on Sunday. Yay!

That is a glance at the marquee through my dirty windshield, a tree, and a sign post (I forgot to take a pic until after I'd already gone to my car...). Note the typo in the band name... ha.

From a brief chat with washboard queen Breezy after the show tonight, they are a bit nervous about playing an 700-capacity venue (as they've never been in Boulder before), so if you happen to read this, you should make some plans to be at the Fox for the show. I personally guarantee you a great time. Jason Webley will be opening again and he alone is more than worth the price of admission, so you can even look at the Big Damn Band as icing on the cake.

Do it, for god's sake. It's a phenomenal show.
